Institutional Review Board (IRB)
The University of Minnesota's Institutional Review Board (IRB), which reports to the Research and Innovation Office, provides guidance and instruction to investigators and study teams who conduct research with human subjects.
Guidance for IRB submissions
- Pre-review submissions to ensure review readiness
- Provide initial feedback about submission readiness
- Offer guidance and support for studies where IRB review may be ceded to a non-UMN IRB
- Answer questions around interpretations of modifications required by an IRB review
Assistance in understanding requirements and materials in the HRPP Toolkit
- Aid in understanding IRB requirements documented in the HRPP Toolkit
- Instruct investigators about submission requirements, potential ancillary reviews, and responsibilities
- Clarify understanding of HRPP Toolkit materials, and templates including protocol and consent templates
- Gather and respond to feedback about the HRPP Toolkit
Assistance using ETHOS system
- Provide technical guidance in using the electronic submission system
- Provide IRB submission status and answer questions
- Gather and respond to feedback about the ETHOS system
Associated fees and funding for services
There are no fees for investigators or departments for IRB staff time, whether provided in the Clinical Research Support Center or in the IRB office at McNamara.
