Biospecimen services
CTSI's biospecimen support team provides centralized specimen support to researchers, including procurement, histology, and imaging services. Services are available to all researchers within and outside of the University of Minnesota.
Specimen Procurement
- Collect tissue and other biospecimens from surgical procedures performed in operating rooms, interventional radiology, and other clinical areas.
- Provide coordinated specimen collection services across University of Minnesota Medical Center (UMMC) East Bank, West Bank, and Clinics and Surgery Center (CSC).
- Deliver samples to study teams as fresh, flash-frozen, or formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE), according to study requirements.

- Full service histology lab
- Human and non-human research
- Immunohistochemistry and tissue microarray production
- Spatialomic sample preparation
Digital Imaging
- Full tissue slide scanning
Associated fees and funding for services
The team provides consultations to prospective researchers at no-cost. However, investigators are expected to provide funding for services beyond the initial consultation.
